The one thing I’ve ever really wanted was a sibling. I prayed and wished for a sibling just about every night. It’s not that I was lonely, I had plenty of cousins to keep me occupied, but it never felt the same. To this day, seeing siblings interact, whether they’re arguing or ranting about how crazy their parents are makes me jealous. I never had that one person to go to, to share secrets, hopes, or worries with. I don’t really mind as much now, because I would’ve been an entirely different person if I had a sibling. Having so much alone time let me become my own person and to cultivate my own weird interests. I’ve found a way to tell stories about my upbringing in a slightly dark comedic fashion, thanks parents. Now, I’m the classic example of an only child.

- Mark Twain” —There’s only so far that fiction can be pushed before it starts branching into science fiction. Truth doesn’t have to be, the craziest things can happen in reality. It’s why I usually stick to non-fiction and biographies. Reality is and will always be more interesting to me than fiction.

Today while reading about the Kennedys, one of my favorite clans, I noticed I have no recollection of my ancestors past my great-grandparents. Most Black people don’t have the pleasure of knowing their ancestry. Since most of our ancestors didn’t have the same socioeconomic status and privileges as their white counterparts. I’ve made a decision to personally start chronicling my family history. I want to personally start interviewing members of my family to get their stories. I want it to be at the disposal of my children and grand-children whether they’re interested in it or not. I’d want to get down both the good and bad, to capture the mistakes and accomplishments that we’ve had. “It is said that history repeats itself, but we are only doomed to relive our past if we fail to learn from it. The past is not a map to where you are going, it’s a record of where you have been. Its purpose is not to drag you back through emotional muck, but to serve you best by reminding you of lessons learned so you can avoid them in the future.” I’ve found a website, Proust.com, their mission statement is ” Proust.com is a place for families and close friends to share the stuff that really matters. Proust is a private place to capture our life stories, thoughts, and aspirations to spark meaningful conversations about who we are.”

There’s nothing I love more than early movie showings. Being alone in a theatre, so my thoughts on the film are unclouded by the opinions of others. ‘The Tourist’ at 10am. Too bad, I already read bad reviews for the film though.
